Hundreds of dolphins in a rare 'superpod' were spotted along the coast of southern California on October 16.
The superpod spanned at least 1.5 miles wide, according to Jessica Roame, Education Manager for Newport Landing Whale Watching.

“Today in Newport Beach, we saw some of the largest aggregations of common dolphin our captains have seen in years,” said Roame.
=>"오늘 뉴포트 비치에서 우리는 수년만에 처음으로 평범한 돌고래들로 구성된 최대규모 집단 일부를 목격했다."
Dolphins 'porpoise' or dip in and out of water to increase their travel speed and save on energy as there is less resistance in air than in water.
=>물보다 공기저항이 덜하기 때문에 돌고래들은 이동속도를 높이고 힘 절약을 위해 '뛰논다' 혹은 물 안팎을 드나든다.
Scientists have yet to find a definitive explanation for these dolphin ‘superpods.’ Among the possible reasons include escaping from predators, or congregating when there is a plentiful source of food.
=>이 돌고래들이 '수퍼팟'하는 명확한 이유는 아직 모르나 포식자들로부터 도망하거나 먹이가 풍부할때 모인다는 정도로 알려짐.
