“It almost feels like a cleansing of energy,” @mfairchild17 said of this Sugarplum Fairy variation in “George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker,” which is at @nycballet through January 5. “That’s maybe too new age, but it feels like an aura or something. Everything feels crystal clear, and I’ve cleared the space for myself.” The role, Megan’s first big part as a member of the corps de ballet, is one she’s grown into. It wasn’t always easy — especially the pas de deux, which comes later in the ballet, but, “it becomes a part of you,” she said. In this solo, Megan is accompanied by the pianist Stephen Gosling, who plays the famous Tchaikovsky music. Her approach to dancing is pure Balanchine: It pushes classical ballet past its boundaries. “You’re never on balance,” she told the #nytimes critic @giadk. “You never get totally on your leg. You fall away from it so it creates its own beauty.
